ODM party has accused embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado of planning to finance chaos in the county, with the aim of forestalling his impeachment.

Obado, his family and business associates were charged with misappropriation of the county’s more than Sh73 million  using proxy addresses.

Migori County Assembly members were on Wednesday summoned by ODM party leadership and directed to kick-start Obado’s impeachment process.

But yesterday, ODM national chairman John Mbadi accused Obado and his supporters of planning to disrupt the intended impeachment through chaos.

“MCAs, county executives, chief officers and contractors are currently raising money to bribe some MCAs in a bid to fund violence,” said Mbadi.

Powerful individuals

Yesterday during a press briefing, Mbadi told the media that the party would be furnishing the national government with names of county officials keen to sponsor violence.

“We assure ODM Ward Reps who have signed the petition to remove Obado from office, that the party will stand with them fully against attempts to intimidate and blackmail them.

We urge the national government to ensure security of Migori MCAs and protect them from any form of intimidation and blackmail,” he said.

Mbadi called upon the security apparatus to take charge of the impending situation.

“Those county executives, directors, suppliers, contractors and county assembly officials are currently holed up in Nairobi, Kisumu and Migori.

As soon as we forward those names, we will expect police to act with speed to arrest the individuals, so that law and order can be maintained and justice is not subverted in Migori,” said Mbadi who is leading the charge against the ouster of the Obado.

The governor has however defended himself against the accusations and blamed powerful individuals of using the court case to impeach him.

Obado who attributes the impeachment plan to his close links with Deputy President William Ruto has vowed to continue executing his duties unperturbed.

“I am still the governor of Migori. There is no power vacuum and those who have now taken advantage of a case which is in court to plan something are dreaming,” he said.
