Pilot linked to fake arms deal released on bond

A pilot who was arrested in connection with the fake Sh39.5 billion arms tender was released on police bond as he awaits to be charged in court.

Capt Subow Mohamed is expected to appear in court  today to answer to various charges. He told police he had been away in India to accompany his ailing father.

 Mohamed told police he knew former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and that he had accompanied him to Poland over the fake deal.

Fake deal

He added he did not know the deal was fake and that he accompanied Echesa to Poland after he was asked to do so because of his knowledge about planes.

He was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on return from India and  was taken to Directorate of Criminal Investigations where he was grilled for hours.

He was released on Saturday night and ordered to return to DCI for possible arraignment.

Police handling the case said Mohamed was cooperative.

In photos that appeared after the saga broke out, Mohamed is seen in the company of Echesa and the would be suppliers of the wares.

The arrest comes as the DCI continues to dig for information on the murder of Kipyegon Kenei a police officer attached to the Office of the Deputy President
