Kirinyaga Jubilee leadership fills void left by Governor Anne Waiguru
Kirinyaga County Jubilee leadership has filled up the gap left by area Governor Anne Waiguru following her defection to Deputy President's Dr William Ruto UDA party, last week.
The leadership has instead appointed Senator Charles Kibiru to be coordinating all government activities and development projects in the area.
Announcing the move, area party chairman Murithi Kangara assured residents there was no leadership vacuum after Waiguru defected from the government to the opposition.
Other area groups present to endorse the Independent Senator included the area Council of Elders, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation and Kiama Kiama.
The groups said since Waiguru had decided to abandon the very party that took her to the top county leadership, they could not allow the area to experience any vacuum.
“We are not short of leaders in this county hence we have endorsed Kibiru whom we have also mandated to be our link and spokesperson with the national government,” Kangara told the media after the development.
Kangara added it was a political process to fill up the gap which Waiguru left behind politically.
In the brief ceremony to have Kibiru elevated to the new status at the Sun City hotel, Sagana, the groups said although Waiguru was within her democratic right to move to any political party, it was unfortunate that she chose to abandon the electorate during the hour of need.
Diana Gicaiya the local chairperson of the Mandeleo ya Wanawake Organisation, Harrison Ndambiri the chairman of the area Council of Elders and Kiama Kia ma’s Mwangi Gituto were among the representatives of the pressure groups to endorse Kibiru.
While accepting the new task, Kibiru said, although he was an Independent Senator he will be carrying his new responsibility in accordance with the government guidelines.
“This is a great honour Kirinyaga people have bestowed on me and I can assure them they now have a ’father’ who will never abandon them or leave them in the wilderness like a flock without a shepherd, “he said.
He also said, although he was yet to declare political destiny come 2022 general elections, he was yet to announce which elective position he will be seeking.
At the same time, Kibiru has asked the medics who were sacked by the county government two years ago to file a petition to him, which he will later table at the Senate.
“I call upon those medics who were sacked by the county government to file a petition with me immediately, and I will, in turn, do the due diligence to ensure these workers were reinstated as ordered by the County Public Service Board and Public Service Commission,” he said.
