Ruto, Mudavadi trash ODM leader’s ‘hollow’ economic blueprint
Deputy President William Ruto and Amani National Congress (ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi yesterday criticised the economic blueprint outlined by ODM leader Raila Odinga, as “hollow.”
Ruto while welcoming Raila’s blueprint, however, maintained it came too little too late as the political conversation has since changed to the empowerment of the masses as outlined by the Hustler movement.
“The conversation has changed. Gentleman, welcome to the hustler nation-led economy conversation that’s people-centred, jobs/enterprise/hustle focused empowerment,” Ruto said in a tweet.
“Leave the leaders-centred constitution change to create positions, share power/meagre resources among elite. Karibuni,” he added.
Ruto has been critical of leaders championing the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), terming them selfish individuals who do not care about the wellbeing of Kenyans.
SMEs empowerment
Attached to his tweet was a video of Raila and Mudavadi talking about empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as the best way to grow the economy.
In what seemed to be a veiled attack at Raila, Mudavadi similarly termed the former premier as a political pretender who had remained silent even as the economy took a beating.
Mudavadi said unlike Raila, he has consistently raised concerns about the state of the economy and the need to revive it, and those who did not listen to him are now coming out to preach the same.
“Those who pretended that all was well have now been smoked out of their hide-outs,” the ANC leader said in a separate tweet.
Mudavadi maintained that revival of the economy should be the main driver of the administration that takes over after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement in 2022.
He explained his ANC party slogan (Uchumi Bora Kwa Wote) advocates for an economy that works for all.
“The resuscitation of the economy, which I have continuously advocated for should and must remain the main agenda going to the next phase of leadership,” Mudavadi said.
Raila used the 31st Saba Saba anniversary to spell out his vision for the country in what read as manifesto for his 2022 presidential contest.
In his 15-point agenda with a hashtag What Raila Believes, the Opposition chief admitted Kenyans were struggling.
