Deputy President William Ruto will on Friday, June 10, 2022, host a women's conference at Nyayo stadium in Nairobi.

The event will bring together all women allied to the Kenya Kwanza coalition that supports the UDA party leader's August presidential bid.

In an invite sent to newsrooms, the party, in a rare condition, asked media houses to deploy an all-women crew to cover the event.

UDA Communications Director Wanjohi Githae explained that the decision, to have only female journalists cover the event, is part of celebrating the role of women in various sectors.

"We encourage your Media House/Online News Blog to deploy an all Women Crew as we seek to celebrate and highlight the important role played by women in all sectors," Githae said.

Women from all walks of life are expected to sign a charter with the presidential hopeful at the event.

The move is seen as a tactical strategy for the seasoned politician to neutralize a wave created by the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition with the naming of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga's running mate.

The choice of the Narc Kenya leader as Raila's running mate is said to have reduced Ruto's influence, especially in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

The candidate, who unveiled Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate last month, has promised to prioritise issues affecting women if he wins the August 9 polls.

“I want to commit that as UDA party leader, women will not be there to be seen. They will be there to be heard and to lead,” he said on Sunday.
