Deputy President William Ruto has welcomed Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s decision to recognise Kenya as a hustling nation.

“Now that the country is in agreement that we are a hustling nation, leaders should respect the hustle of every single Kenyan,” Ruto yesterday said during a prayer service at the Africa Inland Church Ziwani where Reverend Joshua Kimuyu was installed as the new presiding Bishop for AIC Nairobi Area.

The DP later addressed Gikomba residents in Nairobi County.

Dr Ruto asked those in positions of power not to look down on hustlers. “I welcome all those who have finally agreed that we all belong to the hustler nation.

Let us now move to the next level and avoid blackmail, threats and intimidation and have respect for everyone”.

Speaking in Bomet county on Saturday, Raila maintained that all former presidents were hustlers and asked the DP to sell his manifesto for his presidential bid instead of pushing for the hustler-dynasty narrative.

Raila said all former presidents came from humble backgrounds.

The ODM leader said former Jomo Kenyatta; the founding father of Kenya was a son of peasant and so was his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and the late Daniel Moi.

Raila said the 2022 poll will not be a contest between the rich and the poor because the country had a democratic system that allows for competition and equality.  -DPPS
