Kenya side beat Kibuli of Uganda as champions Ebwali are knocked out of East Africa school games
Kenyan side Highway Secondary School made it to the semi-finals after beating Ugandan side Kibuli Secondary School 1-0 to finish second in Pool A.
Robby Katana scored the important goal to seal the semi-final spot for the side.
Highway had picked a crucial 3-2 win against Gesiza yesterday. They finished the group second with 9 points.
However, Kenya national boys football champions Ebwali secondary school adventure in the East African School games was brought to a screeching halt after they were thrashed 4-0 by the 2019 champions St. Mary’s Kitende of Uganda.
Ebwali, who have had a tough outing finished Pool B last on 3 points after losing three of their games with just one win.
In the girl’s category, Kenyan Girls will face each other in the semi-finals to be played on Thursday.
Reigning national girls’ football champions Wiyeta who stormed into the semifinals with an unbeaten record will renew their rivalry against Dagoretti Mixed Secondary School.
In the national championships played last week, Wiyeta beat Dagoretti 4-1 on post-match penalties to win their eighth national title.
Wiyeta finished top of Pool A with seven points after two wins and a draw, while Dagoretti were second in Pool B with seven points after two wins, a draw and a loss.
Dagoretti booked their semi-final spot after an impressive 5-0 win over Uganda’s Sacred Heart, Gulu yesterday.
In basketball, debutants Kenya’s Dr Aggrey Secondary School will face Uganda’s Bethel Covenant in Thursday’s semi, as defending champions Buddo Secondary School from Uganda play Rwandese side Lycee De Kigali.
Kenyan representatives in girls’ basketball, Kaya Tiwi Secondary School and Olympic High School didn’t manage to reach the semis.
In rugby Sevens, Kenyan teams continued to dominate and the winners will be decided today after the end of the round-robin matches.
In yesterday’s matches, national champions Koyonzo lost 19-15 to Hanna International of Uganda but recovered to beat Jinja International School of Uganda 10-7.
Kenya’s Butula School beat Elera of Tanzania 26-5 and Uganda’s Ntare 25-7.
In girls’ volleyball, Kesogon of Kenya put up a spirited battle to overcome a resilient Rwanda’s IPRC Kigali 3-2 to sail through.
However, in hockey, it was the end of the road for both boys and girls hockey. Trans Nzoia Girls lost 3-1 to Kakungulu Girls of Uganda while Friends School Kamusinga were handed a 1-0 beating by Tanzania’s Arusha Meru.
