Mary Moraa, the reigning Commonwealth Games 800m champion, showcased her exceptional form despite expressing her disappointment for falling short of a new personal best at the Silesia Diamond League, over the weekend.

Opting for a proactive strategy, Moraa took the lead from the start and dictated the pace of the race, displaying her dominance this season.

In a powerful surge towards the finish line, she crossed it in a time of 1:56.85, just 0.14 seconds shy of her personal best. The race witnessed Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda, the 2019 world champion, secure second place in a national record time of 1:57.78, with Natoya Goule of Jamaica finishing third in 1:57.90.

While Moraa celebrated her victory, which maintained her undefeated status in the 800m this year, she couldn’t help but express her disappointment at not achieving a personal best.

Reflecting on her race, she commented, “I am extremely contented with my performance and the win. Taking control of the race from the front is a strength of mine, and it proved successful once again.

Although I had hoped to achieve a personal best, I still made a significant improvement. I am grateful to God for everything,” shared the athlete, who previously earned a bronze medal at the World Championships.

Moraa’s focus now turns to the upcoming 2023 World Championships in Budapest, scheduled from August 19 to 27.

To further refine her skills, she will participate in the Monaco Diamond League this Friday, where she will transition to the 400m event.

She added, “My goal for the World Championships is to reach the podium. In Monaco, I will compete in the 400m before returning to Kenya for training.”

Moraa eagerly awaits the opportunity to test her speed and one-lap prowess against these formidable opponents.

During the Monaco Diamond League, the World bronze medalist will challenge herself against renowned American athlete Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning Olympic and World 400m hurdles champion.

The event will also feature strong contenders such as National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) indoor champion Britton Wilson, NCAA outdoor champion Rhasidat Adeleke, European silver medalist Natalia Kaczmarek, and US 400m hurdles champion Shamier Little.
