Spanish side Associacio Esportiva Ramassa has arrived in Nairobi for their highly-anticipated match during AFC Leopards' 60th anniversary on Sunday, Match 24 at Nyayo Stadium.

The Spanish team arrived in the country on Saturday morning with a contingent of 20 players and upon landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, they were received by Ingwe's officials.

The club's patron Alexander Muteshi, IngweAt60 chairman Vincent Shimoli, Leopards’ Secretary General Gilbert Andugu, and committee member Caro Walusaga were at the airport to welcome Ramassa.

Apart from playing the team from Spain, Ingwe have lined up more matches including for their women's team.

"March 24, 2024, will climax the weekend activities which will include AFC ladies playing against Kisii Queens (Shabana Ladies) while our legends AFC Leopards legends will play against Gor Mahia legends," AFC Leopards confirmed in a statement.

The senior men's team will face their arch-rivals Gor Mahia and the Premier League debutants Shabana.

"AFC Leopards vs Shabana FC will feature on the same day while AFC Leopards will also play Gor Mahia FC. Our fans will also have a chance to watch AFC Leopards play against our visiting team A.E Ramassa from Spain," the statement continued.

As they turn 60, AFC Leopards looked back to their history and highlighted some of the achievements they have managed over the years.

History

Although their anniversary is expected to be a colourful one, the fact that their Premier League success dates back to 1998 will cast a dark cloud over the day.

"The club’s growth has been marked by significant achievements, including winning the Kenyan Premier League 13 times, the Kenyan Cup 10 times and the CECAFA Club Championship five times.

"As a club, we are happy to mark our 60th anniversary which is a great milestone in football history in this country. We are happy to celebrate this important occasion with our partners within the country and beyond who have supported us together with great football supporters from all walks of life.

"Come celebrate with us as we forge ahead to make AFC Leopards the greatest club in the region," Ingwe added.

AFC Leopards pushed the day of celebration forward to have it during the FIFA international break when the schedule is not busy.

The actual day of celebration was expected to be March 12, but the club had league engagement then.

Apart from the games, AFC Leopards organised a dinner on Friday, March, 22 and the main aim of that function was to raise funds that will assist the club.
