Two of the eight gold miners who were trapped in a goldmine in a Siaya County for four days have been rescued.

The miners in the Abimbo gold mine in Bondo constituency were trapped on Thursday after the mine shaft caved in.

On Friday, the first miner was lifted out of the mine alive as the emergency workers cheered.

So far, two miners have been rescued alive, while the other was found dead and the body taken to Bondo hospital mortuary. The survivors were treated and released.

Five more are still trapped in the collapsed mine, and the emergency workers are determined to rescue them.

Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Richard Karani said the third miner was found alive and taken to Bondo Sub-County hospital for treatment.

This has raised hopes of relatives and friends who believe the five who are still trapped in the mine will also be rescued alive.
