Maendeleo ya Wanawake Lobby Group has today launched a national peace advisory team that will champion peaceful, free, and fair elections on August 9, 2022.

The team which comprises Maendeleo ya Wanawake leaders, Sheikh Ibrahim Lethome, Bishop Emeritus Davi of Citam, and others who have served in different capacities at the national level has promised to reach out to the various mandated bodies I.e., NCIC, IEBC, Security, Media, and political leaders to ensure that the elections are held peacefully.

“The team is comprised of mature, credible, and reputable personalities in Kenya who have relevant experience to guide the Country into peaceful elections. These goodwill ambassadors will be advocating for peaceful, free, and fair elections,” Sheik Ibrahim Lethome said.

They have promised to reach out to the youth, women, and other key stakeholders through the existing structures.

According to the MYWO chairperson Rahab Muiu, they will ensure that peace prevails, before during, and after the elections, as they did in 2013, 2017, and 2007. She said with the current political temperature, it’s clear that if they do not carry out a peace campaign, the country might face violence.

“We will ensure that the campaigns are in adherence with the Law, peaceful before, during, and after the elections as we have done in the past years,” said Rahab.

They further stated that they will move to every county with Kakamega being their first stop to ensure they preach peace.
