A familiar face will be on the touchline when Basketball Africa League (BAL) gets underway this evening in Kigali, Rwanda.

Former Kenya Basketball Federation Premiership Coach Ben Oluoch will be coaching the four-time Rwandese National League Champions Patriots in the tournament. Patriots will take on Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers in the competition’s opener starting 5pm on Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Prior to his recent appointment as the club’s head coach, Oluoch was the assistant to American Murray Dean who left after winning the Rwandese League.

Oluoch is Patriots' third head coach since the start of BAL Qualifiers back in October 2019.

Previously, he coached Sprite Storms (women) and Nairobi Aviation College in the Kenya Basketball Premier Leagues and Upper Hill High School in Kenya’s Division 1.

He has also handled Ugandan Basketball National League giants Uganda Falcons.

During his playing time, Oluoch played with the now defunct Post Bank Kenya which he led to the 2003 East and Central Basketball Championship.

Notably, another Kenyan Carey Odhiambo was previously in charge of the Patriots in 2019 where he helped the side to stage a staggering nine-match winning run in the Qualifiers.

In 2020, the Rwandan champions signed Kenyan international Tom 'Bush' Wamukota, who is amongst the biggest talents expected to feature in the showdown.
