Outgoing Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has in a twist endorsed former Transport Chief Administrative Secretary Wavinya Ndeti as his successor.

This, he said while speaking in Machakos during Kenya Kwanza's final Ukambani tour ahead of the August 9 polls.

"I have served you as governor and I am about to leave office. I want to tell you my preferred successor. On August 9, I am voting for Wavinya Ndeti as governor because she is the only one who can develop this county,” he said.

Mutua's support for Wavinya of Wiper Party comes days after his deputy Francis Maliti dropped out of the race in favour of Wavinya.

"I have decided to walk with my sister Wavinya and I am sure she is the best leader for Machakos. I want to assure her of my support and that of my supporters,” Maliti said.

At the same time, Mutua urged UKambani voters to choose Willam Ruto as he will be the winner of the presidential race.

“I vote for the winner. I voted for Kibaki and later voted for Uhuru, so I can tell you for a fact that your vote is safe with William Ruto,” Mutua said.

Mutua's decision to endorse Wavinya would see their differences with Johnson Muthama - who is Kenya Kwanza's candidate in the Machakos race escalate.

Ndeti will be facing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman Johnson Muthama and former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita of Chama Cha Uzalendo.
