Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong'o has come out to react to the move by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to hand him a direct nomination to fly the party's flag in the Kisumu governor race in the coming elections.

Nyong'o was expected to compete with CAS East Africa Cooperation Ken Obura for the ODM party ticket in the governor race before the party handed him a direct ticket on Tuesday, April 19.

Following the move by Raila Odinga-led party to hand him a direct ticket, the first-term governor took to his social page to thank party leadership and Kisumu County residents for giving him an opportunity to fly the ODM's flag for the second time in the coming polls.

According to him, being given a direct nomination is a great honour that he would wish to pay back if he wins the election on August 9.

He said that should he win the governor's seat for a second time, he will ensure that he will complete the development programs he began in his first term.

"I would like to thank the people of Kisumu County for unanimously supporting me to run elections for the second time as Governor of Kisumu county," he said.

"When reelected I promise to build on our current achievements and take Kisumu to a higher pedestal of development in the spirit of our TICH TIRE," he asserted.

In the meantime, Nyong'o urged Kisumu residents to engage in the ongoing ODM nominations peacefully.

He also urged the party's supporters to come out in large numbers and elect leaders they would wish to represent them in the ballot box in the general elections.

"I appeal to all ODM members in the county to turn up in great numbers to nominate our leaders," he said.

"Let me appeal for peace, tolerance, and maturity, during this process and allow the party to discharge its duty satisfactorily."
