Bomet County Governor Hillary Barchok has called for prudent use of funds set aside for fighting Coronavirus in the country.

Speaking at Siwot Vocational Institute in Bomet East constituency on Wednesday, Barchok said the crisis facing the country should not be an avenue for some individuals to enrich themselves noting the funds should be prudently utilized for the intended purpose.

Noting his administration has put in place necessary measures to ensure all funds allocated for the purpose was well spent and fully accounted for, the governor asked other counties including the national government to also be transparent on how it uses the funds.

He said it would be sad to have billions of funds set aside for Covid-19 at the expense of other services only to be misused.

“Here in Bomet, we have set funds towards combating this pandemic; we have foregone several development projects and sacrificed millions towards it and we shall account for every penny spent,” said Barchok.

Bomet, he said, has set Sh155 million for emergency during this period which includes purchase of foodstuffs for the less fortunate.

He said, “We value the work of our medics and we must motivate them and so with or without the approval the salaries and remuneration commission (SRC) we are going to give allowances to them.”
