Kisumu All-Starlets head coach Said Juma has admitted that he cannot explain why his team is not performing well.

In last weekend’s game, the side lost 3-0 to Gaspo Women in the opening match of the second leg of the 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League.

While playing in their backyard at Kisumu Moi Stadium, the Kisumu side also lost 3-1 to visiting Zetech Sparks, leaving the coach dumbfounded.

“Things are not going on well as expected. What’s not happening at Kisumu All-Starlets? Why the team not getting results, it’s hard to say,” Juma told People Sports, while remaining adamant and positive about finding a solution to it. He added: “We need to work harder.”

By end of the first leg, Kisumu had only managed to win three matches and lost eight in 11 first leg encounters to sit third last on the log and in the relegation zone with nine points.

Against Zetech on Saturday in a match that ended 3-1, they got their consolation goal through Christine Awuor while Zetech Sparks got their winning goals through captain Puren Alukwe (21’), Lydia ‘Ozil’ Akoth (58’), and Yvonne ‘Master’ Khavere (80’) to leave coach Benard Kitoko excited to bounce back to winning ways.

“Very excellent tactical approach by my players. My plans worked as we had planned since we wanted to press them high and finish them with first breaks, and it really worked well, and we’re happy to get all the three points,” delighted coach Kitoko said.

Meanwhile, Kayole Starlets are facing similar troubles as Kisumu All-Starlets. Kayole finished the first leg in the second last position with similar statistics to Kisumu after winning only three matches and losing eight. In a previous match, they lost 2-0 to defending champions Thika Queens and last Saturday they went down 4-1 to Gaspo Women, thanks to their two super strikers Elizabeth Wambui and Iddah Adhiambo who scored two goals each.
