Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Samson Ojwang has issued a stern warning to candidates who use the youth to commit electoral malpractices.

Ojwang made the warning at Mowlem village, Chepchoina Division in Endebess sub-county during an election sensitisation baraza, which brought together members of the public and national government administrative officers.

He condemned cases of political hooliganism reported in some parts of the county.

“Security records indicate that cases of candidates attempting to disrupt campaign activities and rallies of their opponents are steadily rising across the county,” he observed, adding women candidates were the major victims of violence.

Ojwang (pictured) cited a recent incident where a candidate for Woman Rep was roughed up by rowdy youths at Matisi area near Kitale town.

Illegal liquor

“We have received worrying information detailing how some politicians were arming themselves and their supporters with crude weapons including pangas, machetes and clubs,” added Ojwang.

The CC also accused some politicians of plying the youth with illegal liquor and drugs and using them to perpetrate violence.
