Aukot suffers blow after Nairobi, Nakuru, Makueni reject Punguza Mizigo bill

Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot yesterday suffered yet another blow after Nairobi, Nakuru and Makueni Assemblies rejected his Punguza Mizigo bill.
This now brings to 10 the number of devolved units that have so far rejected Aukot’s bill, with only Uasin Gishu having approved the initiative.
Aukot now has about 10 days to ensure he garners the support of at least 24 counties to see his bill sailing through.
The ground has also been set for the bill to suffer more setbacks after the public rejected it during a public participation exercise.
“The public decision will form part of the report to be tabled before the House soon.
Reading the public mood, the House will definitely reject the bill,” Kitui county Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee chairman Nelson Musyoka said.
In Nairobi, the bill tabled by the chairman of the Implementation, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Committee Jayendra Malde but moved by Majority Leader Hassan Guyo failed to receive any support from the MCAs due to the proposal to reduce the number of constituencies.
While in Nakuru, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee chairperson Erick Gichuki who tabled the report by the committee said members were not happy with several recommendations in the bill.
