Kisumu County Deputy Governor Mathews Owili has promised to revamp Kisumu All Stars saying that the club is the identity of the city and pushing them back to the FKF-Premier League will be something that will bring pride and athletic prowess to the County.

Speaking exclusively to People Sport at Moi Stadium in Kisumu City, Owili was in a jovial mood while breaking the news.

“We already have plans underway to pump in enough financial resources for our football club. You realize at the moment we don’t have a KPL team from here, something that is not good for our sporting prowess. This club must go back and compete in the KPL,” he said and added that it is sad for Kisumu not to have an FKF-PL club and Kisumu All Stars is the only hope.

According to him, the County is also in the process of creating employment opportunities for the club’s players and staff in general, something that he says will add value and lessen the financial burden of payment of salaries and allowances.

“The biggest challenge has always been finances, but once we sort that out by employing the players and coaches, then we should be able to make a step forward,” said Owili.

After Western Stima FC was dissolved at the end of the 2020/2021 FKF-PL season, Kisumu All Stars also had no luck and only played at Kenya’s first-tier football league for only a season just to be relegated due to financial constraints, never to see those glory days again up to date.

Also known as ‘Otenga’, they have begun their 2023/2024 National Super League (NSL) season with a one-all draw at home against Silibwet before going ahead to lose by two unanswered goals against Nairobi United away only to redeem themselves last Sunday at home when on form striker Michael Karamor’s double helped them win against a visiting Migori Youth 2-0 at Moi Stadium.

Now placed 10th on the log after three games, they have four points and look pretty good to take on the bulls of the NSL by their horns in their quest to reach their KPL dreams.
