Mudavadi’s pledge to create jobs, enjoin youth
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi now promises to create five million jobs annually during his tenure should he assume the presidency next year.
Among other packages, Mudavadi not only promises to create an enabling environment for the youth to start up businesses, but also fully incorporate them in his government.
“I have vowed in my 2013 and 2017 manifestos and to reiterate in the 2022 one, that were I to become president, public appointments will be proportional to the population quota of each demography,” Mudavadi says.
The presidential aspirant pointed out that the 5.5 million direct and indirect jobs would be created through reforms in agriculture, boost to Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), e-commerce and Boda Boda service sector.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, Mudavadi stated that he will embark on reviving the economy which has been on its knees and create over 1 million jobs each year by enhancing the capacity of the key sectors of agriculture and manufacturing among others.
He said that for every five direct job opportunities, his administration would expedite creation of one more indirect employment opportunity in a plan he said will be facilitated by removal of tax on youth-owned e-commerce ventures and reforms in the National Youth Service (NYS) to own agro-cottage and other value-addition industries which he said will employ its graduates and other youth graduating from TVETs.
Mudavadi said he will increase budget for agriculture value-addition through establishment of agro-cottage industries that will create jobs, reduce cost of electricity in manufacturing by 20 per cent to enable the sector create jobs by the same percentage, provide cheap credit facilities , tax holidays and subsidize MSMEs to recover from Covid-19 pandemic.
