FKF new boys close transfer window with another big name after unprecedented signing spree
Harambee Stars striker Duke Abuya on Sunday completed his move from Zambia giants Nkana FC to Football Kenya Federation Premier League debutants Kenya Police in a move that would see him be among the top earners in the league.
Abuya, who previously had stints with Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks before moving to Zambia, completed the move a few hours before the local transfer window closed yesterday at 5pm.
He joins a star-studded side that is optimistic of emulating Sofapaka by winning the local title in their first attempt.
Sofapaka won the league title in 2009, the same year they were promoted to top flight football.
Kenya Police FC chief executive officer Chris Oguso said the arrival of Abuya will add depth to the team who have already made several big name signings.
“We have successfully completed the signing of Duke Abuya from Nkana FC and he is our last signing.
We almost landed Lawrence Juma from Sofapaka as well, but it didn’t go through. However, I feel that we now have an able team and we are now getting down to business,” Oguso told People Sport.
Abuya who has played for Harambee Stars in seven matches without a goal, will have to fight for a starting place against John Makwata who also signed recently from Zambia’s Zesco United, John ‘Softie’ Ndirangu and last year’s Betika Super League top scorer Cornelius Juma.
Police, who have currently only won one match out of four, also broke the bank to sign former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars skipper Musa Mohammed and speedy winger Clifton Miheso.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards captain Isaac Kipyegon yesterday moved to league champions Tusker, as Leopards landed the services of former Gor Mahia player Joachim Oluoch and goalkeeper Levis Opiyo.
Sofapaka completed the signings of goal-getter Roddy Manga from Renaissance Du Congo, together with defender David Otieno from Wazito and creative midfielder George Ojunga from relegated side Western Stima.
George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo has returned to Gor Mahia where he started his career in 2008 after he parted ways with Tusker last month and towering South Sudan international John Kuol Chol joined Wazito from Kariobangi Sharks on the final day of the window as well.
