National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has lauded President William Ruto for signing into law the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, 2024.

The Head of State assented to the bill on Wednesday, April 24, and Wetang'ula said the new law touches on crucial areas of the country's future.

"This morning, President William Samoei Ruto signed into law the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendment) Bill 2024. The bill amends 16 Acts of Parliament, touching on crucial areas that impact our nation's future," the Speaker said in a statement on X.

Wetang'ula also highlighted the areas where the new law will have an impact and stated how those impacts will positively touch on the nation's future.

"These amendments cover a wide range of sectors, including; strengthening the Office of the Attorney-General to enable it to fulfill its constitutional duties, streamlining the Administration of Justice, and advancing efforts towards environmental protection and conservation.

"Other key amendments aim at improving registration procedures for trusts, promoting university education, and enhancing national security measures.

"Notably, the bill aims at improving the collection of training levies by KRA, earmarked specifically for paying intern wages and funding TVETs and other institutions of higher learning.

Continuous review

The Ford Kenya leader also said the new law provides a significant platform for continuous review of the existing laws to align them with the evolving needs and realities of the nation.

"It also clarifies the training and practice of veterinary surgeons and para-professionals and enhances accountability and transparency within the Civil Aviation Authority. It also focuses on increasing access to clean energy for low-income households and promoting local manufacturing.

"Today's signing is another step forward in that journey," he concluded.

The signing ceremony was held at State House Nairobi in the presence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Attorney General Justin Muturi, and Wetang'ula himself.
