Taki wins Dortmund World indoor meet
Kenya’s Kumari Taki won the PSD Bank Indoor Meeting Dortmund on Sunday.
In a chilly evening at the Helmut-Koenig Arena, Taki won the men’s 1,500m race in 3:39.12, during the World Athletics Indoor Bronze Tour meeting.
Taki, who holds an outdoor personal best time of 3:34.14, said the cold weather contributed to the slow time.
Canadian Charles Thiboutot was second in 3:40.21 with Bertasius Simas taking third position in 3:42.23.
The 2016 world Under-20 1,500m champion who left the country on Thursday evening said he could not have asked for a better start to his season.
“The ultimate goal is qualifying for the Olympic Games in August. As you know the middle distance races are very competitive in the country.
I therefore have to give my all,” he said in an interview with People Sport. Taki, however, is yet to know which other races he will take part in in the coming few days.
“I am waiting for my manager so that I can be able to know which races I will compete in.
What I know I will be in action before running in the Copernicus cup in Torun, Poland on February 17,” he said.
Meanwhile, 2020 world indoor 800m winner Collins Kipruto will be in action on Tuesday night at the Lievin, France, indoor meet.
Kipruto had to leave it late to travel to the European country owing to delay in release of travel documents.
He will be up against training partner Nicholas Kiplangat in the two lap race.
“I am happy to be here and ready to compete. Despite having difficulties with my visa, I am happy that it is now behind me. My target is to get my indoor season going strongly,” said Kipruto.
