Mwendwa feels cheated after SDT cancels second FKF polls

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has faulted the decision by Sports Disputes Tribunal chairman John Ohaga, that a normalisation committee be formed to oversee the football elections, sighting eligibility and criteria malpractices.

Speaking to People Sport yesterday, Mwendwa said he felt the tribunal was being unfair to make the decision despite the fact that they had upheld all their arguments in the case they took to them seeking interpretation, and dismissed cases against them.

“We don’t agree with the ruling of SDT because of several reasons. Members of FKF through public participation on December 3, 2019 discussed the electoral code in detail and agreed that there must be conditions if someone wants to vie for any elective position,” said Mwendwa.

He added: “The tribunal was satisfied with 95 per cent of the manner in which we conducted our second election, from the public participation we had, the electoral board and the electoral code, so why cancel a second election simply on a single reason which we can dispute?”

Ohaga on Tuesday in a-49 page ruling, proposed the formation of a normalisation committee to oversee the election noting that the current office bearers, whose four-year term had expired, had not factored individual rights in their criteria.

“Ohaga is a lawyer and he clearly knows that even in the recent Law Society of Kenya (LSK) elections, there was a criteria for candidates and no one could have taken part in the exercise if he was not a lawyer.

That is the typical situation in football, we have our criteria, that’s why a swimmer can never be a Fifa president,” said Mwendwa.

He added: “We informed Fifa about the developments on Tuesday night and we are waiting for a way forward from them anytime now. We will only follow Fifa directive.”
